Mary Clare

Mary Clare

Trustee

MaryClare lives and breathes inclusive cycling and is currently the Inclusive Cycling Programme lead for Goals beyond grass. As well as offering people of all abilities the opportunity to experience the joy of cycling MaryClare delivers outreach to people of all ages and works with organisations to make cycling more inclusive.
As a child MaryClare cycled for fun and enjoyment and as an adult, cycling was her main means of transport and still enjoyable. In 2011, whist working as a physiotherapist, she needed to find an adapted trike to enable someone to participation in a Triathlon at Crystal Palace Park in London. Her subsequent first encounter with inclusive cycling was through the national charity “Cycling Projects” which changed her life. Over the next couple of years, she discovered three important things;
·       The residents loved being able to cycle on inclusive, adapted bikes
·       Cycling Projects has a national network of “Wheels For All” centres
·       There wasn’t a “Wheels For All” centre in Gloucestershire.
From late 2013 onwards, MaryClare work with partners to ensure that “Gloucestershire Wheels For All” became a reality. By late December 2016, she knew that she wanted to lead the project and take it forwards, so after 35 years she left the physiotherapy profession and has been living and breathing inclusive cycling, since 2017. MaryClare considers it the most wonderful privilege to be able to facilitate the opportunity for people to get back to cycling regularly or to discover it for the first time, whatever their age or ability, in safe, off-road environments.
MaryClare delivers several sessions at Blackbridge Athletics Track and from here she was invited to join the Board of Trustees.
